Found this ‘92 K1500 earlier this week. This truck was on CL a while ago for like $5500, and he just lowered it by over a grand. Talked to the seller, and he sent me a few other pics of the truck. It looks clean, especially for the price (only rust I can see is passenger cab corner, but who knows whats hiding under the flares). Might go take a look at it.

However, I ran a Carfax on it last night. Everything checks out except for the mileage. It said that in 2003, the truck was reported with 122k or so on the clock. The next record shows it popping up at a Chevrolet dealership with like 106k on the clock. In the ad, the odo reads around 116k.

So, heres my question. Usually this kind of thing would drive me away, but, this truck looks good for the money. Should I still give it a shot and check it out, or is it not worth my time? I know most things to look for on these trucks, and it would be checked out at a shop regardless, but I’ve just never really dealt with looking at a car with this issue.

The 122k could be a typo, especially if all the other entries check out, whats the mileage right before the entry with 122k. If it’s like 90k a month earlier it’s more than likely a typo.

I will have to look at the report when I get home, as it is on my computer. I do recall is being like a 10k or 15k difference in a few months though, so that may be it.

Any chance these cars have dash issues? I know sometimes when a dash stops working then a person will just drop a whole new one in from a different car. Usually it gets disclosed but if it’s pretty close a previous owner may not have bothered.

Also, yeah, I bought a car from a dealer that had 4,000 less miles than was on the odometer on all of the paperwork so they do make mistakes.

I mean anything is possible. They are just mechanical odometers, but I have heard of them stopping. Definitely a possibility.

Probably a typo. Especially if an emmission inspection person typed it in.

We don’t have any emissions testing here in MI. But that is probably what happened.

It sure doesn’t bother me on something like this.
